Hello listers, We use Novell's Subscription Management Tool to maintain a local copy of maintenance for our SLES10 SP2 systems. For a long time now, I have noticed that the counts provided by the tool are off.
Recently, I was made aware by our Novell Rep that Novell had a document (7002030) entitled "Virtual machines are counted incorrectly in NCC." I have spent the last few days implementing this document. I get down to the last few machines and think I am almost done. I run a smt list-registrations command and see that some of the machines that I know I registered do not appear in the listing. The listing gives you a identifying character string, a hostname, and what product it is registered. I think I have figured out what the problem is, but I don't know what to do about it. Our systems that were built before we started using SMT appear to work just fine. That is the process outlined by 7002030 works. Our latest clone master was made after we implemented the subscription management tool. We built this clone master from scratch. In order to put maintenance on the clone master, we had to register the clone master with the SMT. So whatever SMT uses to uniquely identify a host system is registered with SMT before the cloning is done. What appears to be happening is that the last system (cloned with the new clone master) registered is the one that appear on the smt list-subscriptions listing. That is, I register system a. system a appears on the report. I register system b. System a disappears, but system b appears. I register system c, system b disappears. You get the idea. It appears that all systems cloned from our new clone master work this way. One of the purposes of this exercise is to get all our systems on the smt reports and to get the counts correct. Any ideas on how to get the clones built from a clone master to show up properly on the smt reports? In other words, does anyone know how to make these clones appear to be unique to smt?
