Thanks for the responses - I was able to successfully install after manually installing the BIOS package - next roadblock was that I don't have xwindows on my zLinux (Fedora 11) - looks like I'll have to bloat my zLinux with X before I can go further. In the mean time I have installed bochs on my Windows laptop and am working on getting the pre-configured images working - might even install Windows just for practise before I get access to a real z10 and z/VM.

Bochs-bios is the Intel BIOS image that the emulator is supposed to load to provide a normal Intel environment.
