Given your configuration and procedures, it should be enough to use
link mode "R" (and thus have CP refuse the link when someone is
writing to the disk because you know the contents may not be stable).
And along the same lines, the Linux guest that modifies the disk
should use link mode "W" to have CP reject when there's still someone
reading.

The "RR" and "MR" link mode relate to CMS tradition that supports a
"one writer, multiple readers" concept for applications that have
learned the tricks around the NOUPDIRT option of the RENAME command.
They don't apply to Linux (unless you studied the file system in
detail and developed the protocol to implement this concept there).
