Linux absolutely does in all cases (well, not SAN, but GDPS doesn't know what 
that is), even on minidisks under VM.  BTDT got the scars mixing those 
non-timestamped and timestamped together :) No dedicates to be seen anywhere 
here...

If you need VM too, call IBM.

That's the acronym that our storage guy uses for it, but I could be wrong.

But VM doesn't, and if you're doing minidisks, you lose in some scenarios. 
Having to dedicate disks just because IBM hasn't yet been browbeaten into 
supporting the feature is kinda hackish.
