I apologize for mucking up the subject line in my previous post (total newbie mistake).
Anyway, the man pages hint that lnxhvc0 might be reserved for the HVC IUCV driver that's built in to the kernel. So it's probably best not to use it as a terminal id for the iucvtty entries in /etc/inittab.
