Ron,

Please, verify what is the PID (process ID) are running the ghost process.

After this verification, run 'lsof -p PID' and verify which the files are
open.

Understanding which files are open, you can remove file permissions or
debug the problem.

If you can, send-me the result of lsof command.

Have you tried "kill -15" ??

Regards,

Fernando Gieseler

Thanks for the info.

We happen to have the problem on another SAP application server as I am
typing this. I have checked all the nfs mounts and they all appear to
be working. I did not spot messages in /var/log/messages. The drives
for this system are eckd. The storage guy has not notified me of any
problems with the storage subsystem. The z/VM folks here do not have a
z/VM console manager running, so we cannot see if there were any z/vm
console messages come out.

The storage guy is saying that since the storage subsystem did not phone
home, the disks are ok.

Since we are having the problem right now, I contacted our SAP basis
manager and requested that he contact SAP. I will be opening an SR with
Novell when I get finished with this e-mail.

Looking at the time the process has been running in SAP, it looks like
it started yesterday afternoon shortly after the other process.
Different application server.

Yes,

I ended up logging onto the 3270 console. I did a init 1 to take it
down to single user mode. The kill did not work, so I did the shutdown
command. I let it sit a few minutes. The normal shutdown sequence not
complete. So I ended up doing a #cp logoff.

> were you alreday in shutdown?
The only shutdown was after I did the init 1.

Thanks,
Ron
