As you can see from the responses you've received, there are a lot of things to consider about getting into Linux for System z. If you haven't already planned on doing so, I strongly recommend that you meet with IBM and/or your IBM Business Partner, as well as a technical representative from your Linux distribution provider of choice (or multiple ones if you like), to do some planning on how to approach all this. It's quite simple to bring up a single instance of Linux on a mainframe. It's requires much more thought to get things right so that the second, third, etc. instances don't cause more problems than necessary and fit well into your infrastructure. I can recommend a couple of SHARE presentations that can give you a flavor of some of the "low level" details you'll need to consider. There is lots of other research and decisions to be made beyond what's in them.
