It didn't actually work, it just didn't complain. Remember that commands in the installation system are supposed to be called by YaST. The YaST developers are familiar with the limitations of these commands, and put other checks in to see if they work. Such as whether certain files are found after the mount command is executed. You really need to fix the NFS server on your laptop or try a different network protocol.
