I found in yast a way to update the boot loader to point to the older
version of the kernel.  That allowed me to reboot and mount the XFS file
system. Yay.

But i still need to figure out if there is a way to remove the patches from
the new kernel.  As it is, it appears to me, that the maintenance(patches)
are now out of sync. Yast/zypper now think I am running the new kernel when
in fact I am using an older kernel.
