I'm pretty sure they're asking about the ability of using grub itself to change things, when the grub menu is displayed. If so, then there is supposed to be a way to do it, but I never really dug into it well enough to figure it out properly. There are a couple of hints given on the screen about which keys to use, etc., but after that I wasn't initially able to get any further, and had to move on to other tasks.
If they're not talking about that, and are asking about using some form of editor to modify the config file itself, then you're correct. I really wish the old UTS editor that was made to work with 3270/3215 terminals had been open sourced before the company went under, but that never happened.
