Very true. That's why we have the most well-stocked "corner hardware

This is a good point. OS/2 has many limitations that would prevent it from
competing in todays marketplace. that's not to say those limitations
couldn't have been fixed, they probably could have been, but IBM didn't seem
very concerned. For instance, the 512MB process boundary was pretty bad for
years. I believe they finally removed it in a recent version, but it was
too little too late.

IBM was too concerned with proprietary hooks into their mainframe systems.

Oh, I see what you're talking about, the fact that IBM used
off-the-shelf hardware and a BIOS that was easy to reverse engineer. To
me, the real kick was that in its contract with Gates for PC-DOS IBM
actually allowed him the privilege of licensing the DOS to everybody
else, which has to rate as one of computer history's dumbest moves.
With that Gates supplied all IBM's competitors, which put everybody,
down to the smallest Hong Kong junk in the harbor, on an equal footing,
and Gates in the catbird seat.

REPORTER: Senator, are you for or against the MX missile system?

SENATOR: Bob, the MX missile system reminds me of an old saying that
the country folk in my state like to say. It goes like this: "You can
carry a pig for six miles, but if you set it down it might run away."
I have no idea why the country folk say this. Maybe there's some kind
of chemical pollutant in their drinking water. That is why I pledge to
do all that I can to protect the environment of this great nation of
ours, and put prayer back in the schools, where it belongs. What we

On one hand:

Guns are bad....because Nazis and Communists use them to kill innocent
people

On the other hand:

Guns are good...because we use them to kill Nazis and Communists.

However...there is a THIRD possibility...namely that there is nothing
moral nor immoral about a gun...it's the ACTIONS OF THE PERSON using it.

Same for Linux and the Chinese.

Linux isn't immoral...it's the CHINESE GOVERNMENT that is.

Should Linux be outlawed in the US, it'll give Europe a fantastic
advantage.

Just think, America tied to Microsoft's coat tails, Europe free to exploit
the best software around.

Yeup, anti-American all right, Allchin, that is.

Regardless, between the manager and the mass of programmers are always
senior programmers and/or team leaders who should be dictating the
overall structure of the code (hierarchal or spaghetti), and also
seeing to it that the code generated conforms to the structure called
for.
