Yes.  An SMP-capable 2.1.125 and egcs-1.1b aren't compatible, for some
reason.  Richard Henderson gave me a patch to egcs that was supposed
to fix the problem, but both patched and unpatched EGCS-compiled
2.1.125 kernels hung immediately after console initialization.  I have
been able to successfully build and boot a SMP-capable 2.1.125 kernel
with gcc-2.7.2.3-8.

(I don't know what suddenly possessed me to try to build a kernel with
SMP support.  It's not like my AlphaStation 200 can do that sort of
thing.)

I'm booting Linux from SRM with aboot.  aboot needs to be patched if
you use the latest binutils.  I have aboot's source RPM if you need
it.

You might want to ask on axp-list, as there seems to be a great deal
more traffic there than here or on Usenet's comp.os.linux.alpha.
