The kernel may be leaving the PCI bus in an unusable state after a
halt. I haven't heard of this bug before, but it wouldn't suprise me...
other Alpha platforms have exhibited the same problem from time to time.

That's strange. The Linux disklabel program is compatible with Digital,
err, Tru64 Unix so I wouldn't expect a problem with FreeBSD...
