Yes, I do.

I am not an expert at all, but I guess that your problem is related to
something else. I use Slackware 3.5 with kernel 2.0.34 and the apsfilter
491. I installed it from scratch a couple of months ago. I am not sure
what version of ghostview it is, but I guess it 5.10.
My problem is that I wanted to print on a network printer and took some
time to fiddle out how. The answer was the sambapackage (smbclient +
script). Setting up the printcap right and printing ascii was no problem
but also the only printable thing.

I downloaded aps491 filter to print anything. I ran the setup script and
as far as I can remeber there were no special things I had to know, except
that the apsfilter does *not* work for remote printers, as I have. To that
you need to something like:

lpr -> apsfilter -> smbclient -> remote printer
instead of
lpr -> apsfilter -> local printer

For both apsfilter and smbclient stuff I made a printcap entry. Once I did
that and got the names right, everything worked (and still works).

So probably, something went wrong during the installation or you
accidently changed something important of your system, but it should work
without touching ghostscript... I know that this is not really a help but
more a confirmation that it works. If you like i can sent you a copy of my
printcap, and filters I use.
