I've just updated my versio of LyX, since the old version started dying for
a reason I can't pinpoint (many changes since I last used it).

Anyway when I put the new versio of LyX on my system the fonts all came out
as "fixed".
Now after spending considerable time on this I found that XListFonts() was
returning font names with "--" in it. This looked weird to me since I'm used to
seeing only "-*-" in xfontsel.
Anyway XLoadFont() wasn't accepting the font names and so all the fonts were
reverting to "fixed". I eventually got around this problem by changing the "--"
to "-nil-" (always appears in the sans-serif position) in my fonts.dir file.
The fonts.dir files hadn't been changed since the original installation.

Does anyone know why XLoadFont() isn't accepting these names with "--" in it?
More importantly is there a way to get it to work properly. I've just
discovered that the Athena Widget now works in a better font.
Both precompiled binaries and home-made binaries did the same thing.

Linux-2.0.33
System XFree86-3.1.2.0
pc-linux-libc5

Thanks in advance
Rich
