Firstly ("oh dear" say all)
im attempting to boot linux with the kernel in the partition. Ive compiled
loadmap from the source on the ftp.arm.uk.linux.org site. Its on Debian with
a 2.2.16 kernel. There were no major problems in make-ing (a few warnings is
all but it kept going). Then, with the boot.conf stuff set up I tried to run
it. It gave me a parse error but still wrote the boot map. Ok. So the
problem is when i run !Linux with only root as *ADFS::4.4 (set up with
!Linconfig) and no kernel it goes into fits! Its not the invalid bitmap one
its a:
assertion failed: ldr_menu.erntries != 0, file c.ldr, line 51
unexpected termination
then it gives me loads of hex numbers.
any ideas?
Secondly
Does anybody have an EtherM driver working on 2.2 kernels? ive dried
compiling source from www2.eng.cam.ac.uk/~tew22/etherm.htm by following the
instruct. (and changing the paths as relevant) but, although the etherm.o
compiles the 8390_EM.o doesnt (Error 1 and 2). I cant get 8390.o in the
kernel source tree to work either (dont know if i need to but i thought id
try it with that one instead....). Can i use the etherh driver and specify
different irq etc. ?
Thirdly (trivial)
If i have a ln -s to /dev/hda4 as /dev/root and say root=/dev/root in the
kernel arguments in !Linux it cannot mount it. Is this right? Could this be
causing the first error?
in case its helpful
