I had a similar problem with make xconfig -- either it didn't include
all the options, or I didn't see them go by... My problem was
unresolved externals to some dmabuf stuff. Going through make config
carefully, and making sure I added DMA and DSP stuff to my config,
(which I'm almost *sure* I didn't see in the xconfig screens) did
the trick and I could compile the sound support.
Of course, I have an Ensoniq PnP so I still haven't gone to the
trouble to get it working exactly right, but there's so little time
when there are great things like gimp and xephem 3.1 to play with.
