What I do to install linux:
Partition the hard drives.
Copy the slackware-3.6 or slackware-4.0 distribution to the 1G drive
 (ftp prompt=no,type image,mget *.*).
Create Boot and Root install diskettes.
Install it.
Custom configure and compile a new kernel based on your hardware
(cd /usr/src/linux
 make mrproper configure
 make dep clean zImage modules modules_install)
Come back and tell us how far you got.
