I confirm that putting a linkname in diald.conf solved the 'crash on connect' 
problem.
Now I'm having problems with dctrl: the monitoring freezes from time to time 
and I have to tell it to reconnect :-(
BTW I have applied the ip-goingdown patch and it seems to be working.
