On way is to use a chat report file in your connect script. For example:
/usr/sbin/chat -r /tmp/speedlog \
TIMEOUT 60 \
REPORT CONNECT \
ABORT "NO CARRIER" \
ABORT BUSY \
ABORT "NO DIALTONE" \
ABORT ERROR \
"" ATDT$PHONE_NUMBER \
CONNECT ""
This has the effect of writing strings like
chat: Apr 24 06:00:29 CONNECT 50666/ARQ/V90/LAPM/V42BIS
to the named file. See the Chat manpage for details.
