It won't compile on your system without being patched to version 0.16.5.

Several are available for versions 0.16.5 and 0.99.1 (the most recent of
each development cycle).

I'd recommend 0.16.5 for the Linux 2.0.x series kernels, and leave 0.99.1
for the 2.2.x kernels. This is based on my experience, many others happily
use 0.99.1 with kernel 2.0.x.
