Thanks to the help from several of you (a few weeks ago) I now have
diald working. I'm using 0.99.x on RH 5.2, FWIW.
But the current problem is this: It runs fine for a few days (3-5) then
all of a sudden quits working. When I say "quits working" I mean one time
I send out some packets it will bring up the link to my ISP then all of
a sudden the next time it won't. it continues to "not work" until I kill
diald and restart it, after which it is fine again for a few more days.
when it is "not working" I can ping my isp (or any other thing that
would be expected to bring up the link) then look at ifconfig and see
that sl0 still exists, ppp0 is never brought up. Any other diagnosing I
can do to help figure this out?
