Hi,

I have started getting a similar problem with two of my ISPs lines.

To try and diagnose it, I have used minicom to manually dial the ISP and log
in. (use atz [enter] then atdt followed by 'phone number & enter)

With a working line, after entering the account name and password, the ISP
sends the IP addresses for both ends of the link and PPP starts at the ISP
end.

On the problematic lines, I get two different results (After entering
username & password);

First line gives 'PPP Authorisation failed' and immediately disconnects,

the second line puts me to a command prompt on whatever modem rack I've been
connected to, ie.
hyper03-shef>>
(Using diald, this one is logged as 'line is not 8 bit clean' or something
along those lines)

I have spent quite a bit of time on the phone to the ISPs tech support, so
far without any success.

On other lines, the connection works fine.. (but the ones it does'nt work
with are freephone...)

One very odd thing is that a Windows (Win98 SE) machine will connect to the
first line. The second one 'hangs' until it gives up & times out, as it does
with diald.

I hope using minicom may help someone else to diagnose problems, I also hope
someone may be able to suggest the cause of my problem & what Win98 does
differently to connect???
