Gang
Thanks for all your help. The sudden crash of hatteras (my wife's win98
box) and the next (2) days of recovery effort have temporarily halted
any effort on the router. But here is where I pick things back up.
Currently I find my attempt at installing a ipchain, ipforwarding,
firewalling router into my dell/100 pentium a true learning experience.
Diald is working well enough at this point. One of the win boxes has
been configured to use the router for internet connections and its
'internet explorer' request causes diald to establish a connection to my
ISP. But (always a but) while the winbox can ping the ISP's nameserver
thru the connection it can't get http's served. The earlier problem was
not being able to ping the ISP, was the lack of any forwarding rules for
ipchains, once I added "ipchains -A forward -s 192.168.0.0/24 -j MASQ"
things got better.
THe QUestion
Do I need apache running on the router as a proxy server for http to get
things working? And were can I find any documentation about setting
apache up as a proxy server?
Thanks for your time and patience.
