That would depend on your configuration, etc.
I think that dsl service is different depending on where you go.
Here I now have adsl and it's always on, negating my need for diald.

If that's not the case for you, you should be able to use diald.
It should be really easy to do, you just need to specify the appropriate
options in the diald options file.

If you've got pppoe running already, you should be able to look at the
configuration for that and write a suitable diald configuration.
