I guess I did kind of take a tangent from the original post. Originally I
had sl0 and sl1 which became ppp0 and sl1 when the pppd was active. At
least this is a bit more entertaining to read than always having to rehash
the auth/noauth questions...maybe;-)

The original problem description concerned multiple ppp devices. Diald

not create a ppp device when it is initiated, only when it is triggered and
successfully starts pppd. Multiple tap or slip devices would be created if
diald were initiated multiple times. It sounds like the original problem is
that the ppp devices are not getting deleted when diald hangs up the
connection.
Try the latest rev from sourceforge.
