Tap devices:
Put into your conf.modules the following lines
alias tap0 ethertap
options tap0 -o tap0 unit=0
It is sufficient if only diald uses tap. (And it is in your case, I guess,
otherwise
you would now what to do with tap devices already !).
And guys, this was all discussed over and over again last year. Look into
archive.
Diald is a mature product with enough history to answer most questions.

PS. When diald fails to find tap devices, it falls back onto slip interface.
