On the server I use DVB NOVA (S, T and in the very next future even C) cards. These cards are budget cards (so there is no hardware decoder on them). As I said before, the servers are plain-simple PIII at 1GHz. If you are carefully building your app, this is more than plenty. On the client side I can use any computer having more than 500 MHz (even though I tested even with 300 MHz), with a decent video card.
