Probably still have to boot from ext2, though.

OTOH, I have once lost a file in ext2 when my computer
crashed. But only once and have seen Linux-machines
crash (driver development and HW errors) and power
fail least once a week for about 4 years now.
It is my opinion that you need a lot of bad luck
to loose files when Linux crashes. Sure, you will
loose the file you have open for write but it is
not difficult to create a scheme that minimize
the damage. In fact you probably need this for
DOS fs too.
