Sure the chance of corruption is small to begin with. I have a router/DNS/mail/news 
(lots of 
disk IO) machine in my house that has lived solely on grid power without a UPS for 
close to 
4 years now. And the only fs failure I have had was when the SCSI drive failed.   But 
I 
daresay it exists.  I have had personal experience with it in a FAT based fs.  If your 
system needs to be truly able to deal with power outages then the addition of an UPS, 
A 
supercap, or a small 12V backup battery will make that chance far smaller than the 
chance of 
a mechancial HD failure and probally on par with the MTBF of a CF.
