So which is the best platform for Pacemaker + ocfs2/gfs2, Cristian, and what is 
the minimum kernel version required?

Pacemaker + ocfs2/gfs2 is a no-go with RHEL 5.5. You need dlm-pcmk + 
ocfs2-tools-pcmk/gfs-pcmk which are not available on rhel neither you 
can build them from source (kernel too old).
