Hello Ron

There is no limit to the number of aliases that Linux can handle. Provided you are
willing
to type them into ax25d.conf then you can have what you like. For example I could use
my
callsign G4KLX with different SSIDs for my different services i.e. Node, BBS, DX
Cluster,
etc. and have aliases of ZURICH-0 to ZURICH-15 and G8TXQ-0 to G8TXQ-15 and maybe even
a HB9 callsign as aliases, if I had one that is.

I repeat again, as far as Linux is concerned, an alias is simply just a callsign to
listen on, it is not known at all to the NET/ROM layer, just to AX.25. The fact that
the
alias does not look like a conventional callsign e.g. ZURICH-0 is unimportant.

I have never come across a five character limit for aliases in either real NET/ROM's,
TheNet's or BPQ code.

Jonathan HB9/G4KLX (now try to get that into an AX.25 frame address)
