Hi Richard --

You might take a look at http://www.febo.com/packetnet/linux.html -- there's
a link there to a pretty complete description of ax25 configuration,
including basic netrom stuff.

I'm at work now and don't have the page or my other docs in front of me,
but we basically raun netromd without any switches, although you can set
things like the frequency of routing broadcasts via switches. The basic
configuration is to nrattach with something like this:

nrattach -i 44.71.36.130 netrom

where "netrom" is the name of the netrom port, and is tied to a line in
the nrports file. What callsign/SSID to use for netrom can be a bit
confusing; the web page referred to above has what I hope is a pretty
good description of how it works. In short, you should have a unique
call/SSID for your netrom "network" ports, i.e., the one that netrom
uses to send its routing broadcasts and inter-node traffic, but you can
define additional netrom ports, for example for FBB, that share a
call/SSID with another service.

Unless it's been fixed recently, you do need to assign an IP address to the
netrom interface, even if you don't intend to use it; if you don't, the
whole networking system breaks. You can simply reuse an address that you've
assigned to one of your ax25 ports if you want.

After you've attached the netrom ports, then you run netromd to start
sending routing broadcasts.

Hope this helps.

73,
John N8UR
