As many have learned over the past 6 months there are
inconsistancies in information about the ax.25 utilities that I and many
other Hams are using with Linux. I myself have tried to compile the
original new 2.1.45 and 2.1.45a tools on my Red Hat version 5.2 system. Of
course I complained here and when the first message arrived, I recalled
that there is somewhere a Red Hat RPM copy of 2.1.45a.
When 2.0.12 was current about a year ago I wrote a manual of sorts
and explained how to use that package. But since that time development has
continued and the current, and perhaps last, version is for 2.1.45a.
It is clear to me we need a good AX25-HOWTO that explains all
these changes and in clear language tells what to do. I think far too much
of the current HOWTO is spent talking to computer card tnc setup and
getting sound cards to be tnc's.
The AX25-HOWTO should cover getting 2.1.42a running. Examples of
connection to kiss tnc's and computer card tnc's should be an appendix at
the end. I have sent Terry a message saying I will help with a new HOWTO.
I hope he will accept.
Best wishes
