Yes irqtune could be used, and an option from 'hdparm' HOWEVER they do come
with "side effects", some of which "could destroy data on your H/D".
Joerg DL1BKE had the good sense to say, read the manual of hdpram BEFORE
using any option alongside with the scc driver in the documentation of the
scc driver itself.

Now theres something to think on, Joerg said something like "have you ever
thougt about PC's with a malfuntion, old, or something to that effect." 
(the exacht text i do not have any more), well it would seem that however
"newer" the machine is, the more the problem shows itself. 
I suppose newer should be replaced with "quicker".

I would be interested in an output of sccstat <scc!> from you, just to see
how your systems works with z8530drv-2.4c > or which ever driver you use,
and what scc chips you have.
