Mainboard Serial Ports

Hi all,

How does linux communicate with mainboard serial ports? Do I need to
configure something before I can use the ax25 utils to a kiss tnc?

The reason I ask is I have a reconfigured kernel and the utils. Mkiss and
kissattach commands appeared to execute correctly. Ifconfig shows the
network devices. Nothing shows on listen, and I'm unable to connect out. No
activity at the tnc, etc.
