Richard,
I sure did, and it solved the problem. I believe I send a message to
the list to that effect, but just in came it went astray, it seems
that my changing hostnames got me into trouble with a spam filter on
the server, and so by unsubscribing and re-subscribing, I could once
again address the server.
Somewhat marginal, but relevant and perhaps of interest, I just tried
to send a personal note to someone, and got the following rejection
message back:

What is a "valid mail exchanger?" A Microsoft MUA?
My ISP (TIAC) was recently bought out by PSI, and there folowed three
months of terrible service. One reason was that PSI contracts with
some Ascend servers in Virginia which don't work well with linux, and
which means that you can't talk with anyone who knows anything about
the servers (such as Java servlet support, which they don't). TIAC-PSI
no longer wants to hear anything about Linux (for a pleasant contrast,
see Connix in Connecticut).
Sorry, but thought someone on the list might find this useful.
