You did the "make dep && make bzlilo && make modules modules_install" part?
Did you get any error-messages?
Is your kernel-source the one RedHat ships with?
Look into /etc/lilo.conf and look if it expects vmlinuz in / or /boot,
if it is /boot, check if in /usr/src/linux/Makefile INSTALL_PATH is set
to /boot.
If you use loadlin and not lilo:
use "make dep && make bzImage && make modules && make modules_install"
and copy /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage to the directory where
loadlin is installed.
