axports not found

I am trying to set up kissattach in SuSE 6.2.  Have ax25 compiled into
the kernel.  After I issue the kissattach command I receive the response
axports file not found.  The axports file is in the /etc/ax25
directory.  Where does kissattach want the axports file to be ?
What is broken ?

I am about ready to return to TNOS, seems silly when the kernel supports
TCP/IP directly.
