I take the above to mean that the TNC2 has communication over a serial
cable to the computer using minicom, that in turn says to me that the cable
is ok and the program and the TNC see each other, you said commads like ATD
ATZ work right.?
Now that being the case then possably the TNC is in HOST mode, so what
happens is you simply type;
connect on4xxx
Do the TNC leds change or blink, does the send/PTT led blink.??
If the TNC is in command mode it should respond to TNC2 commands, check
your documentation for the TNC.
I think i wrote the following a while back;
A PK232 with minicom;
To get responce from a PK232 (when minicom is configured properly, correct
parms, and comport) simply typing three * (asterisks) at one second
intervals should produce the eprom message and a checksum.
It is then in command mode.
connet on4xxx
Should then produce different activity by keting the PTT line and changing
leds should be seen on the face of the PK232.
1) Make sure your cable complies to what your TNC manual says.
2) Make sure minicom is set to the correct serial port
3) Make sure that the params you mention above are correct
according to the TNC2 manual.

On the otherhand why use minicom,??
Can you not place the TNC2 in kiss mode and use the kernel ax25 and its
ax25-utilitys.?
The above is explained in thre AX25-HOWTO.
