Basically, imagine you're a game programmer writing for this setup.
1. You need to split your game into at least two threads of execution - one for each
system.
2. You then need to make the two parts interact, but the network is *very* slow
compared to the speeds of the processors.
3. You have to completely redesign your code to say "tell the other processor to do
this, then get the answer later", rather than saying "do this".

Also, a PII has new instructions etc etc.

When you study a computational problem which can be split in this way, you will know
about it...

And there is imwheel. It, too, can be configured. It converts switches 4/5
(the switches for rolling the wheel forward back) to whatever you want.
Usually to up_arrow, down_arrow (converting mouse scroll to keyboard
scroll) but you can use special configurations for special programmes
(e.g. add a special configuration or even default so that holding shift
down and scrolling use page_up, page_down).

Of course, it only works if your driver supports switches 4 and 5 for the
mouse wheel.

I have installed linux (Mandrake 7.2) on my sony sr7k laptop. I managed
to configure everything including usb and sound but I cannot play audio
CDs through the speakers. If I plug in a headphone into the cdrom
headphone jack, I can hear the music and control it using kscd. Sound
configuration is fine as I am able to play mp3 and wav files.

Any ideas as to why this is happening? Any fixes ?

I have a PC whit ASUS P3BF motherboard and a UltraDMA66 hard-disk connected
to the board whit a UltraDMA PCI card. I'm not able to install Linux
(Redhat 6.2): when I have to decide what kind of installation I want (GNOME,
KDE, server or custom) I get a message that says: "An error has occurred. No
valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems. Please check
your hardware for the cause of this problem". None of the above installation
will do the job. Could it be a problem that Linux can't recognize my
UltraDMA card? Or maybe a mistake whit my previous cration of a Linux
partition whit Partition Magic?
Thanks in advance.

Does Red hat 7.0 support the BT Speedway ISDN PCI Card? Is there a close
match I could use?

Hi, I'm a newbie of linux, I have a winodem Conexant, HSF, a Soft56KPCI,

I can't find any drivers for linux. I found a driver in Olitec's site,
about a their model having the same chip of mine, I tried it but the

What do you mean by "recognize"? It seesm to me that it recognizes it
very well in any sense that I understand, and knows that it doesn't
have a driver for it, and tells you so in no uncertain terms!

Tell me, Luke, have you read the hardware support list for your distro?
Redhat 6.2 is nearly a couple of years old, isn't it?

No, you need a basestation. That's what wavelan ieee talks to!

I have read what I can on www.opendvd.org, www.linuxtv.org and
www.linuxvideo.org but I still have questions about the support of DVD
players under linux.

Firstly, is it possible? I have a newer compuer (700MHz, 256 MB RAM) with
a 32MB ATI video card for what its worth. I am currently living in the UK
but if I buy a DVD player I will get it in the U.S. (Christmas
present). What is the deal with regional codes, will I be able to rent or
buy a DVD in the UK and play it under windoze or linux? I can essentially
ask for any type of player I want, but I don't know what is supported.

Thanks in advance, Randall

No, two WaveLAN's should be able to talk to each other, in Ad-Hoc mode.
What driver do you use, what's the log output, what do ifconfig and
iwconfig report on each system?

I am looking for information on a recording problem. I have a Soundblaster
Live on my Linux only box and plan to use it for recording. When recording
through the Line-In I am only able to record the right channel, yet it
plays both fine. Has anyone else run into this? Could it be a damaged
card or drivers? I have used both 2.4.0-test11 drivers and alsa for the
card and they both have the same problem.

I am using wvlan_cs.o as the driver on both the machines. You are right
they SHOULD be able to communicate without a base station in Ad-hoc mode
and that's what both of them are set to. ifconfig on both the systems sees
it on interface wvlan0. However on one of them iwconfig returns useful
information but on the other one it acknowledges wvlan0 but says that "no
wireless extensions"

Have a look at these pages for more info...

http://heroine.linuxave.net/bcast2000.html - video editing software (seems
to be a good package, but requires some kernel patches, and needs LOTS of
CPU).

http://linuxmedialabs.com - look at the lml33 card, which does realtime
mpeg compression. I haven't used this, but it looks promising.

This is the only hardware I can't seem to get working in linux!!! The card

"Ad-hoc mode" is not one I've ever met! Assuming it exists, how is one
supposed to get the card/driver into it (please not let it be ad_hoc=1
on insmod :-)?

> What driver do you use, what's the log output, what do ifconfig and

iwconfig? Not ifconfig?

I know that there is a more recent driver that is supposed to cure the
older driver problems with some mobos (I have desktops with pcmcia
slots into which the wavelans fit, as well as a laptop ...). IRQ
conflicts were common with that setup. When talking of "the driver",
you should be meaning the drivers fronm the wavelan pages. The standard
pcmcia drivers are not/were not for recent cards.

eth1: WaveLAN/IEEE, io_addr 0x100, irq 15, mac_address 00:60:1D:1F:2E:FF

I believe this is the wavelan2 driver I am using, grafted onto
pcmcia-cs-3.1.8.
