It's possible, but requires support on the other end. I think. I
have only a hub, which defeats the purpose, so I haven't tried it.
But anyway, it's a kernel configuration option.

You have to be careful when you start to changing the ports because ftp uses
two ports to do its communications (ports 20 and 21). Hence, if you do play
around with the ports and your FTP daemon allows you to do so, you will need
to find a client as well which is capable of actually knowing that your ports
have changed. Some clients are hard-wired causing all sorts of problems and
making them slightly inflexible.

I briefly installed a RH 7.1 beta release on a machine with an
integrated version of this controller, which worked fine. I do get a
similar error when using an i840 chipset, but it is due to the broken
IO-APIC...is this an SMP board? If so, try with kernel option "noapic"
to disable the IO-APICs. I can't guarantee that this exact board works
with RH 7.1, but I can confirm that the integrated version does work
great with RH 7.1 beta.

I don't know if this will solve any problems, but you might have some
luck with the "setpci" command (see also lspci and file /proc/pci). If a
serial port is involved, also check out "setserial".

I think you will find this is the power good line on the psu coming into
play, the mb senses when anything is wrong power wise and sends a signal
back to the psu. Which then shuts down.

I think u need to find out the chip set come with the USB-IDE case. You
have to select the right components during a kernel re-compile.
I am using 2.4.3...I heard that 2.4.4 might be a little bit better...but
haven't tried.
Finally, I use slackware-current. somewhere between 7.1 and 7.2.

Interesting. I have a 29160 working fine in my box. But I had to hunt
very hard for information as to whether it was supported or not
before buying it .. information was contradictory in the web as it
dated from several different epochs and related to several very
different drivers. But reading the code for the driver settled the
issue! It's definitely supported by any recent version of the Gibbs
driver, no matter which kernel you drop them into. The whole
29x60 family seems to use the same chip.

I daresay they meant the 29260. The 29160 was an unknown issue
until it appeared!

No, don't have one of those. My mouse came OEM unboxed etc.

Date: Sat, 5 May 2001 03:21:44 -0500
I am having a devil of a job getting X to work on TurboLinux v6.0.2 with an
ATI card. I have installed XFree86 v4.0.2.
The ATI is called:
"Rage 128+ AGP" by its own BIOS at boot up.
"ATI Rage 128 4X AGP 4X" by Windows 2000 server (advanced display
properties).
And, the chipset under W2000 is described as "Rage 128 GL 4X (AGP 4X)".
I have read these descriptions of the installation process by others:
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/hardware/ati_rage128.html
http://www.yk.rim.or.jp/~ishikawa/how-to-change-X.html
http://www.xfree86.org/4.0.3/ati5.html#5
http://www4.ncsu.edu/~distclai/rage128-howto.html
However, I just get a black screen and an error to the effect "no screen".
Below, is a short extract from the XFree86.0.log (the part that reports the
error):
============================================================================
===============
(--) Assigning device section with no busID to primary device
(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
============================================================================
=================
As a newcomer to Linux I don't know what this means and am frankly stumped
about what the problem is. I would appreciate any help some of the more
experienced users here could provide. If anyone uses this particular card
and would like to send me their /etc/x11/XF86Config I would appreciate that
as well. Note that this "+" model is apparently detected differently from
the earlier Rage cards.
Many thanks.

I'm having problems with my CD-RW running with Mandrake 7.2 where it locks
up on the SCSI bus with time out errors. I have two different SCSI cards
that both use the aic7xxx module and this fault occurs on both, but only
when I have another SCSI device on the chain. The really strange thing is
that I have no problems with it when running Windows98! The fault doesn't
occur immediately but usually occurs after heavy disk usage, for example
when X-Windows loads.

I had tryed all you suggested earlier. I am using the same kernel version as
what Nvidia compiled for anyway. Mine is a "patched" version from SuSe. I
asked them did I need to recompile and they said no. I did it anyway and I
still get the same problem. The Mesa package is there but MEsasoft isn't.
Still no luck. I notice from other people's lofs that mine is stopping at
where it lists the memory size. I have put in my config explicity how much
memory is on the card. I tryed without this too. No luck.
