I'm not having any luck getting my microsoft serial mouse to work with
Slakware 3.5 - XFree86 3.3.2.
If I run the quick tour live system from the CD, the mouse works ok.
But do a full install, configure X and wella, the mouse appears center
screen, but no movement at all.
Any suggestions, will be ruthlessly applied...

I have an IDE, internal zip drive connected as the secondary master. (My
hard drive and CDROM are primary master and slave, resp.) For some reason, the
zip drive is detected by linux (2.0.27) as an ATAPI CDROM drive instead of an
ATAPI Floppy. I had another internal zip drive that was detected fine, but it
was attacked by the Click of Death so I had to get this new one. Does anyone
know why this is happening and how I can fix it?

Thanks,
Joey

Ok, now I get to my problems. I need a basic root filesystem to fit on disk for
this beast, so I can install it on the hd. I need my config files. The howto is
very lean at this point. I need a list of things I need (and how to edit them)
to run bash, format the hd, and install the kernel. I think I have most of it,
but I need rc, inittab, lilo.conf (well, that one's easy) and whatever else is
necessary for a root login and to copy the kernel from floppy to hd.... anybody
got a clue of a place where I can find this stuff?

As a newcomer to linux, I've a couple of questions that have I'm sure been
asked before, but here goes...

Two things I can't get to work, and I miss dearly are my scsi flatbed
scanner, (AGFA Snapscan) and my printer (Epson Color 600).
I can get some basic ascii text to print but no color or any of the many
features the printer is capable of.

Any suggestions on what I can do, or where I can look for help, would be
helpfull...

BTW Happy new year all...

If that's the 'WT-100 Seriell' (and it sounds like it is; that's the DM
15,= or so thingie) you're out of luck as far as xntpd is concerned;
it's not supported.

What you can do (I have done the same, just to see if it would work) is
use one of the Linux programs to read the serial info off the module
(take a look at
ftp://ftp.leo.org/pub/comp/os/unix/linux/local/system/dcf77/dcf77time.tar.gz
for the one I use) and have xntpd sync with the local clock.

Somewhat clumsy, but it works. Quite well, actually, for something that
costs less than $10,= :-). I get to within 50ms most of the time,
although it sometimes goes to 150 ms or so. Probably missing a timer
tick somewhere in that case.

                        Regards,

Well, I would like to, but Im far away to be a CompEng, and Im far
away of programming hardware (or, in that case, software instead of
hardware).
But, as you can see in the enormous amount of messages regarding
Winmodems in this newsgroup, I think that this is a more important point
than many would like to believe. In fact, winmodems are here, and many
of us own one. Not everyone is born with hacking Linux from the
beginning, most of us are coming from the Windoze world and are not
satisfied with M$. So we switch to "the better os", and all we find out
first is, that some things that work good under WinXX dont work under
Linux. I know that it is hard to write software without any
specifications from the manufacturer. And you can be sure that Im
hating that stupid modem thing I own now. But what should I do. Buy
myself a new PCMCIA card for at least $250? Hm, I think you will agree
that this is a bad idea if you already have one.

I'm happy with my Gateway Solo 9100...except for the fact that Gateway
support for their hardware is nonexistent and I haven't yet gotten sound
to work.

I have the Xircom Realport PCMCIA ethernet/56k modem card, which
gets (almost) autodetected) with Redhat 5.1/5.2. I say almost because it
uses the driver for an older Xircom card.

Hi Alain
The Adaptec 1510 is Supported in the Module Aha152x!
Recompile the Kernel with aha152x Support. If Linux not recognize your
card add this parameter:
aha152x=iobase[,irq[,scsi-id[,reconnect[,parity]]]]

Yes, look in the tulip.c that you compiled to see what the version number
is. Then do a "dmesg | less" to see what version number is reported at
boot time.

RH 5.2 ships with the 0.89H driver, which is the one I use successfully.
This is with the "D1" revision of the Netgear card. Also it may be
relevant that it can take 5-10 seconds for the first network access after
bootup to finish, presumably because the card is doing its
auto-negotiation thing during that time.

Can anyone help?

I am a linux novice and I have a Rockwell RSS800 HCF 56K Data, Fax PCI Modem
which works fine under Win98 and NT 4, but I cant get it to work under
S.u.S.E Linux 5.2. I know it works in my machine, as it triple boots between
Win 98, NT 4 and linux. Also I can get older 28.8k external modems to work
under linux without any problems.

Does anyone have one of these modems, or is it a "winmodem"?
