I'm not a BellSouth ISP user, but have connected to several different
ISPs. The problem is that you have to figure out or get the information
from their technical assistance people what kind of authentication they
are using.

Many large ISP's use some form of login and password challenge. You
have to figure out what that is and script your program accordingly.
The way I use to figure that out is by using some sort of dumb
terminal and connecting to the modem and dialing the telephone number
for the ISP and seeing what comes up.

Some other ISP's don't use login and password in ASCII, but instead
immediately goes into PPP mode and authenticating using one of the
PPP authentication mechisms. The one that I've encountered most
often is PAP authentication. To use that you have to set up PAP
authentication on your PPP software. Others use CHAP authentication.
Again, that would have to be set up in your software. Small local
ISPs that are based on Windows NT servers may require Windows based
authentication. I had to drop that ISP since AFAIK Linux doesn't
support that.

In any case, use the terminal emulator program to make the connection
and see what appears. If it is readable, it is the login and password
authentication. If it isn't, it probably is PAP authentication or
possibly CHAP authentication.

I hope that I've given you enough pointers to find the problem. Good
Luck and Happy New Year!

Henry

Behave, learn some manners and most importantly grow up. With this kind of
attitude few people are likely to "waste" their time helping a "pissed-off"
teenager like yourself. You, like most "pissed-off" "lamers" are of no use
to Linux and never will be since you lack skills, both social and
technical, and you seem to feel like the rest of Linux'ers owe you something.

As a sign of good spirit take this advice; download the RH stuff to your hd
and then install from the hard drive. If you are uncapabble of doing so then
order a cd from CheapBytes and leave everyone here alone. Actually if you
already have problems (before install) you should quit now. I don't want to
hear you infentile whining later.

Subject: Re: HP Colorado 5GB Tape Drive ATAPI interface error message on RH 5.2

HI Again,

I would also be interested in finding out if anyone else has one of
these tape drives working on some LINUX version RH or otherwise.

The reason I want to know is that looking at the source for RH 5.2
(2.0.36 Kernel) and the source for the LINUX 2.2.0-prel Kernel, I
found differences that looked like they were based on different
branches of the source for ide-tape.c rather than just an update
of the 2.0.36 source.

Again, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Henry

LINUX IS EVERCHANGING AND FASTER THAN WITH WINDOWS !!! IT IS FOR THIS
REASON THAT I, UNLIKE YOU MENTALLY RETARDED MFs DON'T BELIEVE IN
PAYING AND WASTING SPACE. IF I HAD A DIALUP CONNECTION, THEN THAT
WOULD BE A DIFFERENT STORY !!! NOW STOP TELLING ME TO BUY SH** OR D/L

A FULL FOLLOWUP OF HOW TO DO IT VIA FTP IF YOU KNOW HOW !!! OTHERWISE
DON'T POST !!! GET IT !!!

I am building a system that will boot between 4 OS' - Win 95, Win NT WS,
Linux, and Solaris. I would like to be able to hide system partitions from
other systems. After doing some research, the 4 partition software packages
seem to be the most common and well developed ones.

I am looking for opinions/feedback/input on the four packages:

        Bootit
        Boot Manager
        Partition Magic
        Partition Manager by Ranish

Can anyone recommend one or the other, or provide feedback as to why they
have used one over another?

Thanks, Chris Peek

Dear All,

I noticed that my hayes accura external modem (v.90 flashed) performed
only about half it's transfer capability as compared to that under win95
(2.7 kbps as compared to 4.7kbps). The connection handshake is clearly
that of v.90.

I hope someone has some idea why this is so.

Thanks in advance
