Hi,
I am upgrading my video card from a PCI card to an AGP card. My base
Linux installation is SuSe 3.4. I was planning on upgrading to
Xfree86 4.0.x anyway so I have all the files I need to hand for the
new card.
What I am not sure about is if there are any kernel (or other) changes
I need to do prior/after changing videocard given the different IO
ports being used.
Any hints/tips much appreciated.

Anyone heard of this web site:

We are looking at purchasing a router and found this site. Just
wondering if anyone else heard of it.
It appears their price beats Cisco by leaps and bounds. No surprise
for open source though.
Just looking for feedback

This was the case. I recompiled with sound as a module and works fine.

What version of redhat are you trying to run. Redhat 7.0 runs x4.0.1 which
does not have native support for it. You can get x4.0.2 which does have
support for savages.

I tried to install SuSE 7.0 on my new assembled PC, which comes with
X4.01. My vendor gave me a Matrox G450 Video card.
I was a bit skeptical using such new card, however a quick check under
XF86free 4.01 showed that the 450 is supported in Beta stadium.
The Installation from the CD fails after I see (very shortly) the last
messages on the screen where it probes the video Hardware.
I get a message OUT OF RANGE on the screen. (just for clarification,
this is at the very beginning before the system I am booting for the
CD asks me any question)
Taking a REDHAT 6.2 CD ended with the same result.
I am considering to bring the cards back and change it for a G400.
Browsing trough the XFfree I saw that cards from other vendors like
ATI, Nvidia and ASUS seem to have better "3D" support
Question:
who on this list is using one of the following cards
ATI XPERT 2000
Asus 6xxx or 7xxx
NVidia
ELSA
Please give me a quick advise with a recommendation. Thanks for your
valuable time

My feedback to you is stop hiding and instead at least admit you work
for the company!
If you wish to business with the community it would be appreciated if
you would not hide behind a my-deja mask. By looking at the mail
headers I was able to determine that you are sending from
crisco.imagestream-is.com . This leads me to believe that you have
something to hide. In my not so humble opinion this lowers the quality
of your product significantly.
So what do you have to hide?

Tim, is your network card plug 'n play? I had a similar problem with
my network card. I finally had to go into /etc/isapnp.conf and
comment out the sections having to do with the card. When I rebooted,
everything came up fine.
Good luck!

I don't know about having anything to hide, but that kind of thing is so
tacky it only makes the company look like a cheesy, fourth rate operation.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with plugging your product on Usenet, as
long as you're doing so as a bona fide participant. If you can give useful
advice, all you need is a link in your sigfile, and it will do more for you
than you can imagine. Anything else is just spam. You might have just
lost a bunch of potential customers here with your cheesy marketing
tactics. Congratulations.

Is there an easy way to find out whether a driver has been
linked into the kernel?
It's obviously not going to work if you attempt to load a driver
as a module and it's already in the kernel. But if you haven't built
the kernel yourself, how do you know?

U uninstalled ghostscript, printtool, etc., reinstalled it all and it is
working a bit better. Right now using the printtool I was able to print
the test pdf file.
Now I just have to configure it to print from other things..

Hi,
which agp-card are you going to use??
Anyways, disable graphical login in Yast1prior to inserting the new card.
When you are done, start sax (3.3.6) or sax2 (4.0x). In case you are
planning to use a Geforce, carefully read the installation instructions on
nvidia's website.
Cheers,

Yikes I forgot to snip the web address!
I agree Matt, a small add saying hey we're here, here's what we do,
come take a look. It goes a long way towards customer relations.
BTW, I'm going to be working on an article on how to build diskless
Linux boxen to perform routing functionality. I guess my price may be
a bit better as I'm only selling the article to a magazine and all the
code and such will be free (I'm not in business). So I guess I'll be
one of their competitors (now I'm saying bad things about the
competition :-).

Got them thanks.
I am slightly complicating matters by trying to update XFree from
3.3.x to 4.0.x and KDE to v2 - while still getting to grips with
Linux. I thas been a while since I last played with it and I am still
tracking down where various things get setup.
As long as Linux will boot with the new video card I should be able to
muddle my way through.

Hi,
others did, but I didn't get my shiny MX to work with Suse 7, still rely
on a V3 2000 & Xfree3.3.6.
As to kde2: you can install it and happily run it along with kde1.1x, the
latter won't be overwritten.
I tried it, worked at once with no hickups, and then I restarted Gnome ;-)
Good luck,
Ruediger
