Dear Linux Gurus,
I have an Caldera OpenLinux 1.3 on a Pentium II, 300 MHz machine with an
ASUS P2L97-Board.
The system-time in the BIOS is correct, but the System returns always
the wrong
time.
on startup "date" gives BIOS-Time,
after 15 seconds "date" just counts five seconds more.
This means, that my Linux needs three hours for one !!!!
Is anybody out there how can imagine whats wrong, and what I could
probably do ???
(LISA says I have a i686-processor with 299.x Bogo-Mips;
The KDE-Systeminfo says "unknown Processor")
Thank you very much in advance,
mailing from the past,
Christian Bauer

I have a PRIMAX hand scanner which works through the
parallel port. Does anyone know of any software out there
which can specifically access this device.
Thanks for any help.

He doesn't have a mom. She dumped him at birth. You see it in nature, the
mother abandons its child and nobody knows why, until the child grows up.
Mothers have a sense about these kind of things early on.

The IBM Turbo 16/4 Token-Ring ISA will work with the standard drivers
in the Linux 2.0 distribution. Just make sure that you use LANAID to
set the adapter to Auto 16/4 compatibility mode instead of enhanced
mode, and you're good to go. You'll need to compile in Token-Ring
support as well as the "Tropic" chipset driver (ibmtr.c).
The IBM EtherJet 10Base-T ISA will work once you obtain the drivers
from
http://www.networking.ibm.com/support/products.nsf/techsupport/
(ejetisa10bt)?OpenDocument
Get the "Linux Driver Diskette" from the product download area. It's
a bit silly that it's packaged as a self-extracting diskette image
instead of a TAR ball, but hey, it's better than nothing.
Enjoy!

This is a bug in the original Microsoft DOS/Windows filesystem code, which
not only had the FAT16 filesystem size limit but also assumed that the
network servers had the same limit.... It was not fixed until Win95-OSR2.
Pre-OSR2 operating systems will allow you to read and write to the entire
network filesystem, but will not report the remaining space correctly
unless (until) there is less than 2Gb free.

i recently installed redhat 5.2 on my brother's system and have encountered a
problem with the com ports. On this system it has the standard two com ports
installed. It also has a logitech busmouse. For some reason the logitech busmouse
has taken the assumed position of com 2 and the modem resides on com 1. This is fine,
but i need to add another modem to the system and for the life of me i cannot find or
figure out how to make use of the com 2 build into the motherboard..

A few days ago I noticed this little feud begin, and I figured that it would end in
a day. Well, it hasn't and it is getting a little annoying. I think that I speak
for most in the group when I say that this little kiddy fight needs to stop. I
understand how tempting it is to bash the little snot, but unfortunately this isn't
the place for it. I feel that if we just ignore him, then he will go away. Compare
him to a pimple, if you scratch it, it only gets worse. I am sure that after I
post this message, DG will tell me either to FU** off, eat SH** and die, or tell me
to stuff a pie in my face. I really don't care, he is just some little ole kid
that thinks he is hot sh** because he can cuss around adults and not get a bar of
soap shoved down his throat. Basically I ask all of you to simply ignore the kid
so that this group can get back to what it was designed for.
Thanks,

No, for a redhat-5.2 system you should go to updates.redhat.com and
get the XFree86 packages from there.

NT is running on a SCSI 3 hard drive (boot disk) and I bought a IDE for

I can't find the Realizm Z13 GT graphics card in any hardware list.
Do you think I'll have any problems? Does anybody have a TDZ 2000

I don't want to install unless I'm pretty sure it's going to work.

This is what I had before *my* Dexxa 3-button mouse died. My XF86Setup
program recommended choosing MouseMan rather than Logitech, which was only
used for older Logitech mice.

I just installed an ISA NE2000, which was detected by Linux
automatically like PnP. But there's something that need to be set:
1. make your card a non-Pnp card.
2. set the address and the IRQ to various combinations. For starters,
try 0x300 and irqs: 9 to 13. The settings work for my 3 PCs.
Hope this helps.

Your LS120 also functions as a 1.44MB floppy, right? You can use rawrite
to dump the bootdisk image onto a floppy. Both a premade boot.img and
rawrite.exe are available on the RedHat CD, and you can either run rawrite
from a DOS window, or double click on it.
This will work, assuming the following are true:
1. LS120 drive can write to a 1.44MB floppy disk
2. You've got a linux distribution that provides rawrite.exe and a boot
image
3. You've got a CDROM drive or NFS mount that you will install from
4. The boot image has a driver for the LS120 drive, SCSI controller and
CDROM or network card, which ever you need for installation.
Hope this helps.

For a trouble free installation do what David said.
You don't need to download all of the X rpms. The
following are all you should need
XFree86-3.3.3-1
XFree86-libs-3.3.3-1
XFree86-75dpi-fonts-3.3.3-1
XFree86-devel-3.3.3-1
XFree86-VGA16-3.3.3-1
XFree86-XF86Setup-3.3.3-1
XFree86-SVGA-3.3.3-1
If you are fortunate to have a largish monitor you may also
want the 100dpi fonts.
To install do
rpm -Uvh XFree*
then run
XF86Setup
when you select the video card (Millennium G200 8M/16M), also click
on the advanced button, and make sure "VideoRam 8192" is listed
in the box (or VideoRam 16384 if you have 16M), if it is not
click on 8M or 16M (i.e. specifically tell it you have 8M/16M).
There is a problem with autodetecting the video ram for the
G100/G200, so this is the crucial step. You can read all
about this at http://www.xfree86.org/ or in
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/README.MGA after the installation.
After you have saved and tested the configuration you can delete
XFree86-VGA16-3.3.3-1
XFree86-XF86Setup-3.3.3-1
if you like, as they are only necessary to create your
XF86Config.
Also, XFree86-devel-3.3.3-1 is only really necessary if you
will be developing/compiling any X apps, but you should
keep it, as you will no doubt want to compile some.

I just thought I'd let you and the group know that this bug has not been taken
care of in win95 osr2 running fat16. I just ran a check by copying much more
than 2 gigs of stuff to the drive in question and the windows machines still
report 2 gigs of empty space along with a few very large data sets. I guess,
maybe, you have to be running fat 32 to see the true size of the samba
export. But, since there are currently no machines running fat 32, I can't
check this theory. Thanks for the information. It saved me lots of time
trying to figure out what was wrong with my Linux configuration when the
problem was "elsewhere." If anyone out there has a Samba directory larger
than 2 gigs exported to a win95/98 machine with fat32, drop me a line/email
and tell me if, when mounted as a network drive, the Samba directory is the
correct size......just curious.sendto<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>thanks
