I hooked up an Exabyte 8200SX 8mm 2GB tape drive to my system. Device
ID and all are set up just fine.

Linux finally decided to recognize that it was part of the SCSI
chain...now, I'm just trying to figure out how to use it to back up my
system(s). Neither tar nor cpio seem to be able to get proper access
to it.

How do I go about formatting tapes in this beast, and then using them
to back my system up?

This is just out of curiosity: I'm wondering if there's a special
reason why linux distributions for intel don't provide anything else than
i386. Assuming that you have, say, a conmplete linux distrib compiled for your
pentium, would the gain be worth considering (as opposed to running an i386
distrib on the same machine) ?

        Please, Cc: me, thanks.

Nobody "changed" them. Please read the relevant docs and the Serial-HOWTO.
cua* devices are obsolete. That's pretty much all there is to say.

Just a thought, do you know of any WinModems with decent performance? Not
trying to be glib, but a 28.8 Sportster screams past a V.90 WinModem when I
have been surfing using the two. I am finding V.90 WinModems to be a
mistake.

Thank you!
But how can I download the file since I can't donfigure my ISDN card?? (UGH)
I bought a book on Linux; about the installation of ISDN cards it merely
says it's tricky, and nothing else (!).
If I download the file via WinShit 98, Linux won't recognize my Win
partitions (FAT32) nor the floppy formatted under 98!
Please help;
I wanna get Linux going and I can't frustrating!

Yes. Just set the symlink . Newer distributions just will not
create the needed /dev/cua* entries anymore.

You do have another device already occupying DMA 5.

Enter the Adaptec's BIOS and set the DMA channel to something unused,
like DMA 3 .

Try running the color depth at 32 bits per pixel instead of 24 bits per pixel.
Netscrape can't deal with 24 bpp displays.

Hi folks; Sorry to put up yet another "help me" post, but I've tried
about everything I can here, and nothing works. I've just installed
RedHat 5.2 on a Winbook XP5, and everything works.. except X. I have the C&T
65545 chip set (1 MB memory) and I've looked on the net for a XF86Config file
for XFree - I find some which are close, but nothing has worked. The screen
clears, but all I get are a bunch of vertical black and white stripes, until
I kill the X server manually. I'm attaching the XF86Config file
below, along with a copy of "startx" output. If _anyone_ has X running on a
XP5 (or with a C&T 65545 chipset) and can email me (or post) a working
XF86Config file, you will get my undying gratitude. Thanks in advance! This
is really frustrating.

Thank you.
Overclocking my Celeron 333 doesn't work even when they are in an Single
Chip System. I tested it with both CPU's. Everything is well but when
the linux-kernel startsup the system hang.

I will trie the wire from an tiny mabuchi motor. The wire which is
around the anker is very thin (smaller than 0.15mm) and is isolated with
green paint. It was the cheapest and smallest wire i found.

I know an other guy who is also tuning his 300A to run in an dual Tyan
Thunder Mainboard. His is going to shave the BR1 by hand. I'am trying to
do this with an machine with a mikroscope(I don't know the word in
English: Me-Mikroskop). It can drive 1.65mm deep. The pcb is about
1.63mm thick. How did you shaved the pin ?

For most winprinters -- you would be correct. For HP PPA printers,
such as 710C and 720C, you're wrong. They can be used under Linux,
thanks to Tim Norman.

To use these printers under Linux, take a look at:
