The difference is that your board uses the ATI Rage Pro turbo chipset which
is backwards compatible with the Mach 64; the Mach 64 is a much older ATI
chip. ATI has been very reluctant to give out any information on how their
chips work claiming that its "proprietary" information available only if you
want to pay a (rather large) license fee to develop drivers for. This policy
goes against the philosophy that Linux is built upon. Frankly, I think that
any hardware vendor that adheres to such a policy may be shooting themselves
in the foot, as ulimately if drivers were available to the Linux community,
more product (ATI) would be sold. Anyway, the Mach64 X server works ok for
most all ATI stuff, but it doesnt take advantage of the newer 3D features that
are built into their graphics accelerators.
A couple years ago, you could get NO X11 support for ATI with Linux. I had to
use the generic VGA server for my ATI card. I suppose I should be thankful
for the Mach64 server, as it's better then nothing.

Subject: A delni as a hub
Date: Wed, 03 Feb 1999 02:34:37 -0500
Is it possible to use a DELNI as a hub for a small ether net. I have 2
Novell NE-1000 network cards and a DELNI. I know that the actual purpose
of a DELNI is to act as a multi-port transiever from the main bus but
I would like to use it as a hub to make a small network to learn about
this wonderful technology. I recived the equipment and wiring (Thick
Transiever Cable) in a job lot and would am unable to invest in newer
technology right now. I have sucessfully configured the cards (Linux
recognizes them and ifconfig returns information about them) but I can't
getr the 2 computers talking to each other through the DELNI when
connected to ports 1 and 2. I get a time out message. I have also
recieved this same message using PLIP but I belieeve that this is due to
the low speed of the parralell port on the one computer. I need to
network the 2 computers under redhat 5.2 and kernel 2.0.36 in order to
install Linux on the 1 computer that does not have a large enough hard
drive to hold the installation and install it (I got Redhat 5.2 via FTP
but I still have all of the original packages)
The other option that I do have is to use some older ARCnet card with
RJ-11 TP cable but the installation boot disk does not have support for
ARCnet wich is beyond me because all ARCnet cards use the same driver.
If I could somehow boot off of a boot disk and then mount the
NFS filesystem through ARCnet and the install linux that would work. The
problem is that I have no idea how to invole the install program from
the command line. I also am not sure how to compile a Kernel and get
everything needed into a disk etc. I do not have any BNC cable, T's or
terminators or I would use these on any one of 3 types of interfaces.
ARCnet, Ethernet or good old Token ring. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank you in advance. (please reply to email address as well as this is
cross posted)

Hi,
System Commander is nice, but for what you want to do, the regular
edition is ok and you will save about $20. Actually, lilo or the boot
manager that comes with FreeBSD will probably do what you want for
free, only without the printed documentation that System Commander
comes with... and SC _does_ make it very easy to setup a multibooting
system.

What board are you using?
Is the audio Plug and Play?

If your CS4236 is integrated on the Intel Seattle motherboard
then an IO address is wrong as are the IRQs. If the CS4236 is on
something else then I don't know.

Hi,
I also have a 3c905b on my PC and installed RH 5.2 and got your error message
"FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF", but that was only temporary.
I have Winnt, Win95, DOS and Linux on the same machine, I found if I wanted to
start Linux, I better shut off the machine completely instead of hitting
CTRL-ALT-DEL and it seems to work as Linux started up fine and able to talk to
the inside/outside world. Hope this might help

If you are interested in a commercial solution, Xi Graphics'
Accelerated-X Display Server supports the Lifebook 270dx in all modes
and resolutions fully hardware accelerated, e.g. 1024x768x24bpp. The
Accelerated-X is 2 times the performance of any other X server offered.
Install and setup are very easy. It takes about 10 minutes. Try our
free demo at: http://www.xig.com/support/demo2.html.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

I don't know about state of the art. Wyse terminals were always kinda
slow...
Most libraries I've visited in the last five years uses Wyse terminals
in their circulation departments. I'm sure a few will still use 'em in

Hi all;
I just assembled a new computer with a 10G IBM drive. It boots fine when the
disk is in LBA mode, but I get the "LI" problem if it's not in LBA mode. I tried
the 'linear' option, but it didn't work. Try setting, or unsetting as it may be,
the LBA mode in your BIOS and see if that helps. Remember about the 1024 Cyl limit
IRT booting when partitioning your disk.

Does the contract actually say the Windows is required? Or simply that it
is the only O/S supported?
My ADSL provider says I can use *nix but that they only support Windows
and Mac O/S. In other words, my problems are my own to fix.

I've looked at ZOOMs WEB page
http://www.zoomtel.com/products/zoom-product-matrix-na.html
and there is that line in the Features column for the Model 2925:
. For Windows 95/98, NT 4.0 computers
But it could also be misleading because for Model 2919 they
specifically mention under the model designation itself that
it is DOS/Windows-only modem. They don't do that for 2925 which I
think is simply the internal version of their external 2949 modem.
With this external one I also had a hell of a time and had to return
two of them to the store: the first one for hardware failure (no tone)
the 2nd one for what seemed to be a bad driver under Win9x.
It was also using a Lucent chip set. Then I discovered the same
modem with Rockwell chip and that works fine, at least on Win98.
I have not installed Linux yet on this new PC (waiting for a 2.2
distribution), but I don't expect any problem on this external
modem. So I just didn't have any luck with the Lucent chip modems!
Does your modem work under Win9x, BTW?
