There is one important thing about boot-images, they have to be placed at sector 0 -
15. There was a time I wrote drivers for CD Recorders, and in that time
most writers were not able to write to sectors below 16. So if you want to
create a bootable CD you must be sure, that your writer can write to the lower
sectors.

Hi, I am totally new for linux. I have a Acer ALN-320 ethernet card(PCI)
and I have no clue how to set this up.
Should I use other driver that red-hat provided or I should set up my own
kernel?
If I have to use other driver, which one should I use?
If I have to build a new kernel or modules, what should I do?
Thanks for your attention.

Are you connecting at all? I had to modify my sign on script to match what
my ISP was using. You configure PPP using the network configuration tool
on the control panel. You can also do with with linuxconf.
You should try dialing up your ISP with minicom or Seyon first to see what
sort of prompts you need to answer to.

First I'd make sure both partitions are set active.. not sure if Lilo
would care about this or not...*shrug*
What I did was make a multi configuartion DOS bootup, which presents me
with a choice of Win98, Linux ( with kernel 2.2.1, or with kernel 2.0.36
),Plain DOS, etc... This is using loadlin, since for some reason lilo
wouldn't install on my hd :(.
To do it this way ( there are other ways... ) I edited msdos.sys and
changed BootGUI=1 to BootGUI=0, so I could control the bootup better.
And then made my startup files, which I attached here, if you'd like to
look at them. Obviously you'd have to change them to match your system.
ps. I know my system defaults to Win98 :( But of the 3 people who use
it, Im the only Linux user *sigh*

Hi, do you know the AT commands for your modem?
I am almost sure you do not initialize it properly;
in minicom, try to initialize modem with proper commands
and then connect and read the speed.
Sometimes AT&F initialization (resoring factory settings)
is not bad at all.
Cheers,
Andrew

Hi!
I should have made clear, that I'm not looking for one of the
Mac-Linuxes. I've seen the LinuxPPC stuff, and it is fine.
However, I am thinking wether it is possible to use standard distributed
stuff for x86 (SUSE, RedHat, and precompiled applications); and the only
stuff to adjust being some drivers.
So I want to know whether someone has done that before or wether it is
definitely impossible.

Somewhere recently I've seen that 7 dead pixels max for the whole screen is
acceptable in the industry. For smaller screens than yours, 1 or 2 max.

I just learned that there is something called Quick Drive
(by DataWise) that allows you to plug a regular IDE H.D. onto your
parallel port.
Would this work on linux ? Will a regular "paride" support in
the kernel configuration allow to work with this ?
Anyone working with it ?
ANy help will be appreciated

Date: Sat, 13 Feb 1999 10:53:57 GMT
Hello one and all,
I'm having some problems setting up this internal PCI modem of mine. I do
believe it is NOT a winmodem and can be set up for linux. I've read the Serial
and Modem HOWTOs and also monitored messages in here.
However there are some differences in the way it sets itself up in Win95, as
follows (according to systems under control panel) :
Port : COM 3
IRQ : 10
I/O : E400-E407
I/O : E800-E8FF
So far, I've not been able to get the modem to work in linux. I've tried to
use the setserial program so that it recognises the modem. This is just about
the only thing I've done actually.
what should be the entry in my rc.serial and / or rc.local files? especially
in rc.serial what should be the entry for port? (since win95 gives 2 I/Os) is
there anything else I should be doing?
Thanks in advance
Eddie

Hi mom:
I signed up for Compaq internet via GTE net, which will allow me access

will get $3 off bill per month. I get first 50 hours free and get $100

Question is: I know I left the brown suit in closet but did I leave a LS
