My parents got me a HL-720 laser printer for my birthday about one year
ago. It is a windows dependent therefore it sucks but I was wondering
if anyone out there uses one with Linux if so I am interested in how I
can set it up.

With the P-II you could block out pin21 on the pcb and unlock the
multiplier to overclock. Perhaps it would work with the P-III. Read
http://www.tomshardware.com/
The P-III is essentially a P-II with SSE. So it makes sense that
blocking out pin21 will work again.

Below is a message that I sent to another user that was having a

post it here incase someone else was having the same problem.
Can someone please explain to me why and how it worked. I did
something but I am not sure what I did. In looking back I guess it
was just the conf.modules file that needed editing. (see STEP1 below)
Special thanks to Mykool, Justin Miranda and Howard Mann for the email
replies. I basically took a little from each of your messages and was
able to resolve the problem!

I DID IT!!!! YEEE HAAA... Here are my steps:
STEP 1.
Edit the /etc/conf.modules file (I used PICO - it's my speed) It
should have 2 lines as follows:
alias eth0 3c509
options eth0 io=0x300 irq5
<end of file>
Note: My options lines was above my alias line. Also I added a "0x"
onto my existing "io=" statement. Old "io=" said io=300 but I changed
it to io=0x300 after seeing other examples of conf.modules files.
STEP 2.
Don't ask me how or why...but I just typed "insmod 3c509" and it
loaded. I saw a message scroll by earlier that said insmod: <some
error in eth0> so I figured I would try it. And sure enough I guess
it read in the new changes from my conf.modules file and loaded the
ethernet card. Now the eth0 was now loaded but I still didn't see any
activity on my hub. So I went another step.
STEP 3.
Fire up xWindows if you haven't already. With your mouse click select
Programs...Admin...Network Configuration. Select the *Interfaces Tab.
You should see your eth0 in there (hopefully) - mine said Inactive as
you said yours did too. Click the ACTIVATE button and then SAVE.
My hub light fired up and I can now communicate with my server!!!!
Gonna go spend some time with the wife now. I am not sure if it will
reboot back into this setting but I figure I can always repeat these
steps until I can figure out how to automate it better.

I don't know about the SCSI adapter, never heard of it, but most everything so
far will work well, with one glaring exception... your Modem will most certainly
not work at all under Linux.

Now, there's an upgrade to support that chipset; get the Xfree86 upgrade to
version 3.3.3.1

They even work under Linux:-))

Not sure about this one... good luck.
Here is a good place to start your reading, as there is an updated hardware
compatibility HOWTO there too, among other very useful info:

Of course you know that spare harddrive space is like spare closet space, and
you have more than enough, depending on how many of those HUGE installs you do
on those win9x games... (like Freespace :-))) or maybe not?

I've got an AVA-1505 that has both a 25-pin db25 external connector and
a 50-pin internal connector. Bit, I can't get the 152x driverunder RH
5.2 to find the card.
Did you have to use any special settings to get your 1505 to work?
Thanks,
Jim
